Short answer: To rank for your own name, Google needs to be confident about three things: who you are, which page is the main source of truth about you, and that other trustworthy sources agree. In practice that means one strong profile page on your own website, consistent details everywhere you appear, structured data that connects you to your work, and genuine mentions from other sites. Posting many thin articles with your name in the title does not help, and often hurts.

I am Yatin Chaudhary, founder of Digital Marketing By OG. This article is partly a guide and partly a record of what we did on this website to build my own name as a search entity, including a mistake we had to undo. If you are a founder, consultant, doctor, lawyer or creator who wants people searching your name to find the right page, the same steps apply.

Why personal brand SEO matters

People search your name before they hire you, invest in you or recommend you. If what they find is an outdated profile, someone else with the same name, or nothing at all, you lose trust you never knew you were being judged on. Google’s own guidance puts trust at the centre of how it assesses content: of experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust, Google says trust is the most important.

For professionals, a clear name result also helps with AI answers. When ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI Overviews describe you, they draw on the sources that are clearest and most consistent about who you are.

Step 1: Make one page the source of truth

Choose one URL on your own domain as your main profile. On this site that is my portfolio page. It should state plainly:

  • Your full name, role and where you are based.
  • What you do and who you do it for.
  • Education and credentials, stated accurately. Mine are BBA, MBA and AI & ML.
  • Experience with dates, and projects with links people can check.
  • Results only where they are documented.
  • A professional photo and links to your verified profiles, such as LinkedIn.

Step 2: Consolidate instead of multiplying pages

This is the mistake we made early on. The site once had eleven short posts about me with titles like “meet Yatin Chaudhary” and “Yatin Chaudhary Google Ads expert”. They repeated each other, competed for the same search and gave Google no clear answer about which page mattered.

We fixed it by permanently redirecting (301) those posts into a single, fuller profile article and removing them from the index. If you have several thin pages about yourself, merge them into one strong page and redirect the rest. Our technical SEO checklist explains how to handle redirects without creating chains.

Step 3: Connect the dots with structured data

Structured data tells search engines, in machine-readable form, how things relate. On this site every article is marked up with the same Person entity as its author; that Person is linked as founder of the Digital Marketing By OG organisation; and the portfolio is marked up as a profile page about that same Person, with a photo, credentials and a link to LinkedIn.

The key detail is using one consistent identifier for yourself across every page. Many sites accidentally create several “people” with the same name, one per plugin or template. Validate your pages with Google’s Rich Results Test and the Schema.org validator after any change, and only mark up facts that are visible on the page.

Step 4: Put your name on the work, not just the about page

Every article I write carries the same author box, pulled from one profile, with my photo, credentials, areas of expertise and links to my portfolio and LinkedIn. Updating the profile once updates it everywhere. This builds the connection between my name and the topics I write about, such as SEO consulting, local SEO in Delhi NCR and Google Ads budgets.

The articles themselves have to be genuinely useful. Writing for people, from real experience, is what earns links and mentions over time.

Step 5: Keep every profile consistent

Use the same name, photo, role and one-line description on your website, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile (if you have one), conference bios and guest articles. Link back to your main profile page wherever the platform allows it. Inconsistency is one of the most common reasons name results show the wrong person.

Step 6: Earn mentions you do not control

Your own website can only say so much. Independent mentions carry more weight: podcast appearances, interviews, speaking at events, client case studies published on their sites, guest articles on respected industry blogs. Aim for fewer, genuine mentions rather than directory spam.

What the data says so far

I would rather show real numbers than promise results. In Google Search Console for 29 June to 28 September 2026, searches for “yatin chaudhary” showed our profile article at an average position of 2 and the portfolio at around 10. Those are small numbers: personal name searches are low-volume by nature. The goal is not traffic. It is making sure the right page answers when someone who matters searches your name.

A personal brand SEO checklist

Item Done when…
Main profile page One URL on your domain states who you are, with photo, credentials and projects
Consolidation Thin duplicate pages about you are merged and redirected
Person schema One consistent Person entity, linked to your organisation and articles
Author box Every article shows the same author profile from one source
Consistency Name, photo and description match across LinkedIn and other profiles
Mentions Genuine third-party interviews, features or client case studies
Monitoring Name queries tracked in Search Console every month

Frequently asked questions

How do I rank my name on Google?

Create one clear profile page on your own website, make your details consistent across profiles, add accurate Person structured data, publish useful work under your name and earn genuine mentions from other sites.

Do I need a personal website for personal branding?

It helps a lot. Social profiles are useful, but a page on a domain you control is the one source you fully own and can structure for search.

Should I write many articles with my name in the title?

No. Several thin pages about you compete with each other. One strong profile plus genuinely useful articles works better.

Does Person schema guarantee a knowledge panel?

No. Structured data helps search engines understand you, but Google decides whether to show a knowledge panel based on many signals, including independent sources.

How long does personal brand SEO take?

Name searches are usually low-competition, so a clear profile can rank within weeks. Building strong third-party signals takes months.
