Short answer: Social media marketing in India has two separate costs. The first is the management fee you pay an agency or freelancer for strategy, content, posting and community management. The second is ad spend, which you pay directly to Meta, LinkedIn or YouTube to promote posts. Quotes vary widely because scope varies widely. The number of platforms, posts and reels per month, who shoots the content, and how much paid promotion you run decide the price. Compare quotes on deliverables, not on the headline number.

If you have received three quotes that look nothing alike, this guide explains why, and how to budget for social media without paying for vanity metrics.

What you are actually paying for

Cost component What it covers What pushes the price up
Strategy and planning Audience, content pillars, monthly calendar More platforms, more products or locations
Content creation Post designs, carousels, captions, reels editing More reels and video, custom illustrations, multiple languages
Production Photo and video shoots On-site shoots, models, locations, frequent shoots
Community management Replying to comments and messages Longer response hours, weekends, high message volume
Paid promotion management Setting up and optimising ads behind your best posts More campaigns, audiences and creative tests
Ad spend What Meta or LinkedIn charges to show your ads Your budget: you decide it and pay the platform directly
Reporting Monthly results and recommendations Custom dashboards, frequent reviews

Why quotes differ so much

One quote might cover eight static posts a month on Instagram. Another might cover two platforms, twelve reels, a monthly shoot, daily replies and ad management. Both can be called “social media marketing”, but they are completely different jobs. Before comparing prices, ask every provider to list:

  • Which platforms are included.
  • How many posts, carousels, reels and stories you get each month.
  • Who shoots photos and video, and how often.
  • How many rounds of changes are included before posting.
  • Response hours for comments and messages.
  • Whether ad management is included, and what ad budget they recommend.
  • What the monthly report shows: enquiries and sales, or only likes and reach.

Organic posting vs paid promotion

Posting regularly builds trust. When someone checks your profile before buying, an active, useful page reassures them. But organic reach alone rarely brings a steady flow of enquiries for a small business. That is why most businesses put a modest ad budget behind the posts that perform best.

With Meta Ads, you set a daily or lifetime budget in Ads Manager and pay Meta directly. Your agency should never need to hold your ad money. For realistic ad costs, read what Facebook and Instagram ads cost in India.

How to set your social media budget

  1. Start from the goal. Enquiries, store visits, online sales or hiring each need different content and different ads.
  2. Pick one or two platforms. Instagram and Facebook suit most consumer businesses. LinkedIn suits B2B. Doing two platforms well beats doing five badly.
  3. Budget content and ads separately. Great content with no promotion reaches few people. Heavy ads with weak content waste money.
  4. Test for 60 to 90 days. Give the plan enough time to learn which content and audiences work, then decide whether to scale.
  5. Measure what the business feels. Track enquiries, WhatsApp chats and sales from social, not only followers and likes.

Taxes and small print

Agency fees in India attract GST, generally 18% for marketing services. Check the tax on both your agency invoice and your ad platform invoice with your accountant. Also make sure your business pages and ad accounts are registered in your business’s name, with you as an admin. If you ever change providers, you keep your pages, followers and ad history.

Red flags in a social media quote

  • Guaranteed followers or likes. These are easy to fake and say nothing about sales.
  • Pages or ad accounts created in the agency’s name. You should own them.
  • No mention of ad budget or who pays it. Ask how ad spend is billed before you sign.
  • Reports with reach and impressions only. Ask how they will track enquiries.
  • Long lock-in contracts with no clear deliverables.

How we price social media marketing

Our social media marketing service is scoped around what you sell. We agree platforms, content volume and response hours first, then quote. If paid promotion is part of the plan, Meta Ads management starts from ₹10,000 a month, with ad spend paid directly by you to Meta. You can also combine services in our custom bundle.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to hire someone in-house for social media?

Sometimes. An in-house person costs a salary plus tools, and one person rarely covers strategy, design, video and ads equally well. Read freelancer vs agency vs in-house marketing for a full comparison.

How many posts a week does a business need?

There is no universal number. Consistency and quality matter more than volume. A realistic schedule you can keep up is better than a heavy one that stops after a month.

Do I have to spend on ads?

Not always, but most small businesses get far more enquiries when they promote their best posts. Start small, measure enquiries, and increase the budget only when the numbers work.

Which platform is best for my business?

Go where your customers spend time and where you can show your work well. Instagram and Facebook suit most consumer businesses. LinkedIn suits B2B services, recruiting and professional firms. YouTube suits products and services that need explanation.

How soon will social media bring results?

Paid campaigns can bring enquiries within days of launch. Organic growth and brand trust take months of consistent posting.
