Short answer: LinkedIn Ads are the most expensive of the big ad platforms per click, and for many B2B companies the cheapest per qualified lead. They work when you sell something with a high contract value to a definable set of job titles or companies, when your offer gives a decision-maker a reason to hand over their details, and when your sales team follows up properly. They rarely work for low-ticket or consumer products.

I run LinkedIn campaigns for B2B clients selling into India, the US and the UK, and the pattern is consistent: the platform’s targeting is excellent, the clicks are expensive, and success depends on what you put in front of people. This playbook covers when LinkedIn is worth it for an Indian B2B business, how to structure a first campaign and how to judge the results.

Is LinkedIn Ads right for your business?

LinkedIn is worth testing if most of these are true:

  • A new customer is worth a lot to you, typically a contract or annual value in lakhs rather than thousands.
  • You can describe your buyer by job function, seniority, industry or company size.
  • Your sales cycle involves more than one conversation, so a lead is the start of a process, not a one-click sale.
  • You have something useful to offer before the sales call: an audit, a benchmark, a template, a demo, a short consultation.

If your buyer is a consumer, or your average order is small, Google Search or Meta will almost always produce cheaper customers. See Google Ads cost in India and Meta Ads cost in India for those channels. If you sell industrial products against quotations, see our RFQ-first digital marketing plan for manufacturers.

What LinkedIn Ads cost

LinkedIn also runs an auction, and prices are driven by how contested your audience is. Senior decision-makers in IT, finance and HR are targeted by many advertisers and cost more to reach. LinkedIn’s own guidance sets a minimum daily budget of US$10 per campaign for USD-billed accounts, and recommends higher starting budgets for new advertisers.

Because clicks are expensive, the maths only works if the value of a customer is high. Before launching, calculate the most you can pay per qualified lead: customer value multiplied by the share of qualified leads you expect to close. If that number is lower than a realistic LinkedIn cost per lead, fix the offer or the targeting first.

Targeting that actually works

LinkedIn’s advantage is professional data you cannot get elsewhere. The options we lean on most:

  • Job function plus seniority rather than long lists of job titles. Titles are inconsistent across Indian companies; functions and seniority are more reliable.
  • Company lists. Upload a list of target accounts for account-based campaigns. This is often the highest-quality audience you can build.
  • Company size and industry to exclude businesses too small to buy.
  • Website retargeting through the LinkedIn Insight Tag, to reach people who have already read your service pages.
  • Contact lists of past enquiries or event attendees for nurture campaigns.

Avoid audiences that are too narrow for the budget. A few thousand people is fine for account-based work; for general lead generation, a larger audience gives the system room to find responders.

Formats and offers

Format Best used for
Single image or video with Lead Gen Form Direct lead capture. Forms can be pre-filled from the member’s profile, which lowers friction on mobile.
Document ads Sharing a guide, checklist or report inside the feed, with the option to gate the full document behind a form
Thought leader ads Promoting a founder’s or expert’s own posts, which often feel more credible than brand posts
Website visit campaigns Sending warm, retargeted audiences to a strong landing page

The offer matters more than the format. “Book a demo” works for people who already know you. For cold audiences, lead with something useful: a free audit, an industry benchmark you have actually compiled, a checklist, or a short consultation with a named expert.

A practical first campaign

  1. Install the Insight Tag and set up conversion tracking for form submissions and key page visits.
  2. Define one audience by function, seniority, geography and company size. Save it and reuse it.
  3. Create one Lead Gen Form campaign with one clear offer and three to four ad variations.
  4. Keep the form short: name, work email, company, job title and one qualifying question.
  5. Connect the form to your CRM or at least to an email alert, so nobody waits for a reply.
  6. Run a retargeting campaign to engaged viewers and website visitors once you have enough of them.
  7. Review weekly on cost per qualified lead and sales feedback, not click-through rate.

Measuring what matters

LinkedIn will report form fills. Your sales team knows which ones were real. Agree a definition of a qualified lead before launch, record lead status in a shared sheet or CRM, and review it every week. In B2B, the campaign that produces fewer but better leads usually wins.

Because sales cycles are long, give LinkedIn at least a quarter before judging return on investment, and track pipeline created, not only leads.

Keep the data side compliant

Lead forms collect personal data. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules notified in November 2025, businesses need clear notice and consent for the purpose they collect data for. Make sure your form’s privacy policy link works and that the data is used only for what you said.

Frequently asked questions

Are LinkedIn Ads worth it for small businesses in India?

Only if you sell to businesses and a single customer is worth a lot. For low-ticket products or consumer services, Google or Meta will usually be cheaper per customer.

What is the minimum budget for LinkedIn Ads?

LinkedIn sets a minimum daily budget of US$10 per campaign for USD-billed accounts. In practice you need enough budget to generate a meaningful number of leads each month before judging results.

Should I use Lead Gen Forms or send people to my website?

Lead Gen Forms usually convert better on mobile because fields are pre-filled. Use your website for retargeted, warmer audiences or when the offer needs more explanation.

How do I improve LinkedIn lead quality?

Tighten seniority and company size, add a qualifying question, lead with a specific offer and follow up within hours.

How long does LinkedIn take to show results?

Leads can arrive in the first week, but judge return on investment over at least a quarter because B2B sales cycles are long.
