Short answer: A website that gets visitors but no enquiries usually has one of four problems: the wrong visitors, a page that does not answer their question, too much friction between interest and contact, or broken tracking that hides the leads you are already getting. Check tracking first, then work through the page from the headline to the contact button.
Business owners often come to us after spending on a redesign or on ads and still seeing an empty inbox. In most audits the fix is not a new website. It is a set of specific, unglamorous changes to the pages that matter. Here are the twelve I check, in the order I check them.
1. Confirm leads are actually being tracked
Before assuming the site does not convert, make sure you would know if it did. Test every form and check the emails arrive. Confirm that phone taps, WhatsApp clicks and form submissions are recorded as events in Google Analytics 4. It is common to find forms sending enquiries to an old inbox or spam folder.
2. Check you are attracting the right visitors
Open Google Search Console and look at the queries bringing people to your site. If most traffic comes from informational searches, job seekers or people outside your service area, the traffic will not convert however good the page is. The fix is better-targeted service pages and, for ads, tighter keywords and locations.
3. Give each service its own page
A single “Services” page listing everything cannot rank for, or convert, specific searches. Someone searching for “office interior design” wants a page about exactly that: what you do, examples, price guidance, process and a way to enquire. One page per core service, and per key location where genuinely relevant, is the foundation.
4. Say what you do in the first screen
Visitors decide within seconds whether they are in the right place. The first screen on mobile should answer: what is this, who is it for, and what should I do next. Replace vague slogans with a plain statement such as “Website design and SEO for clinics in Delhi NCR”.
5. Make contact options obvious on mobile
Most Indian visitors browse on a phone. A tap-to-call button, a WhatsApp button and a short form should be reachable without hunting. Keep the header button visible as people scroll.
6. Shorten the form
Every field you add reduces the number of people who finish. For a first enquiry, name, phone or email, and one question about what they need is usually enough. Ask for the rest on the call.
7. Show proof people can verify
Trust decides whether someone enquires. Real project photos, named case studies, genuine Google reviews and the faces of the people who will do the work all help. Invented testimonials do the opposite, and in India the Consumer Protection Act treats misleading claims seriously. Only show what you can back up.
8. Answer price and process questions
If buyers cannot find even a rough price or a description of what happens after they enquire, many leave to find a competitor who explains it. Publish “starting from” prices or clear ranges where you can, and a simple step-by-step process.
9. Fix speed and stability
Slow pages lose visitors before they see your offer. Google’s Core Web Vitals give useful targets: Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of visits. Compress images, remove unused plugins and scripts, and use caching. Our technical SEO audit checklist covers this in more depth.
10. Match the landing page to the ad or search
Paid traffic sent to the home page converts poorly. Each campaign or ad group should land on a page that repeats the promise in the ad and makes the next step obvious. This also improves landing page experience, one of the factors Google uses to judge ad quality. Our Google Ads landing page checklist covers this step by step.
11. Add a lower-commitment next step
Not everyone is ready to “get a quote”. Offer something smaller: a free audit, a checklist, a price guide, or a 15-minute call. These capture people earlier and give your team a reason to follow up.
12. Reply fast and follow up
A website can generate leads that still never become customers. Set a response target, ideally within an hour during working hours, and follow up twice if there is no reply. Keep a simple record of every enquiry and outcome so you can see which pages and channels produce customers.
A quick self-audit
| Check | Pass if… |
|---|---|
| Tracking | Every form, call tap and WhatsApp click shows up as a GA4 event |
| Traffic quality | Top Search Console queries match services you sell, in areas you serve |
| Service pages | Each core service has its own page with price guidance and process |
| Mobile contact | Call and WhatsApp are visible without scrolling |
| Form length | Four fields or fewer for a first enquiry |
| Proof | Real projects, genuine reviews, named people |
| Speed | Core Web Vitals pass in Search Console or PageSpeed Insights |
| Follow-up | Enquiries answered within an hour in working time |
When a rebuild does make sense
Sometimes the platform is the problem: a site that cannot be edited without a developer, cannot load quickly, or cannot support service pages and tracking. In that case a rebuild is worth it. Our guides on website development cost in India and WordPress vs a custom website help you plan it.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my website get traffic but no leads?
Usually because the traffic is not from buyers, the page does not answer their question, contacting you is awkward on mobile, or leads are arriving but not being tracked or answered.
What is a good conversion rate for a service website?
It varies widely by industry, traffic source and offer. Measure your own baseline, then improve it; a change that doubles your rate matters more than any industry average.
Does website speed affect leads?
Yes. Slow or unstable pages lose visitors before they see your offer, and speed is part of Google’s page experience signals.
Should I add a chatbot to get more leads?
A chatbot helps when it answers real questions quickly and hands over to a person. It does not fix a weak offer or a confusing page. See our AI Copilot for a website assistant trained on your own business.
Do I need a new website to get more leads?
Not always. Many sites improve substantially with better service pages, shorter forms, clearer contact options and fixed tracking.
